New Building Control Regulations 2014

New Building Control Regulations came into force from 1st March 2014. While these will not have an immediate effect on owners of apartments and houses, they should over time lead to higher quality buildings in Ireland. The new Regulations introduce a system of mandatory certificates of compliance at various stages in a construction process. This will replace the system of ‘self certification’ that largely pertained up to 2014. RFPM has had to work with different OMCs over the years in relation to construction-related deficiencies in apartment blocks and other multi-unit developments. We hope that the need for this ex-post work will reduce in the future. Further information on the regulations is available at www.environ.ie (Development / Housing section).
